Four of the fastest-growing businesses in Northern Nevada businesses took the stage and shared their sage advice at a special event hosted by NCET on Jan. 21 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. During the discussion, they shared insights on everything from building a culture to whether or not social media really is worth the effort. Here’s a sneak peek of what they had to say.

Culture

“Every summer we have a barbecue on Friday and each department is in charge of what the theme of the barbecue is,” said Ty Whitaker, co-founder of The Abbi Agency. “And through the employee surveys, we discovered that the biggest thing that they talked about was those barbecues on Fridays.”

The Abbi Agency grew 105% over the last three years and reported $4.2 million in revenue in 2018, according to Inc., so the proof is in the pudding (or in this case, the pizza and BBQ).

Women in Leadership

For Kunall Patel, owner of Davidson’s Organics, hiring and promoting women has been critical to the company’s growth. Eighty percent of of Davidson’s Organics leadership roles are held by women.

According to the NNBW article, “In recent years, Davidson’s Organics has doubled the size of its warehouse, grown to 65 employees, and launched 15 new products.”
