DRI is a recognized world leader in basic and applied environmental research. DRI’s impactful science and inspiring solutions support Nevada’s diverse economy, provide science-based educational opportunities, and inform policymakers, business leaders, and community members.
Wildfire science research is critically important, and DRI scientists will share an overview of fire research and the development of a Weather and Research Forecast advanced modeling tool that simulates weather, fire, and smoke for firefighting and prescribed fire operations; research on air quality sensors and purifiers to improve approaches for evaluating wildfire smoke and mitigating the associated health risks in Northern Nevada; and deploying drones and sensors at active controlled burns and to characterize the post-wildfire environment.
