At some point, between the hot takes, algorithm changes, and hashtags on Facebook, social media stopped being fun and started being a bummer. In today’s “attention economy,” how can your SMB stand out and grab the attention of potential clients?
That’s a hard task for business… now imagine being a government spokesperson needing to raise awareness of an important issue with citizens? How do you make “government talk” digestible in 280 characters? Why can’t updates for constituents be informative and engaging? There is literally no law that says you can’t! AJ Miller, City of Reno Public Communications Specialist, will share how Reno approaches using humor online, why you never punch down, and when you should probably just skip the joke.
During the July Biz Café, AJ will cover:
Why it’s ok to laugh at yourself.
When it’s appropriate to be cheeky.
How to handle trolls.
How to make sure people are heard.
AJ is a “Battle Born” and raised Renoite with over 17 years of experience in traditional and social media. At 16, he joined a local radio station with aspirations of on-air stardom, but what he wound up finding was a passion for his city and a steadfast voice (and often cheeky tone) to go along with it. After a decade AJ switched gears and through a combination of his creativity and quippy captions, found footing in social media and content creation. Whether it’s producing a podcast with political leaders in Nevada or gathering Dam Input for the City’s Dam Project (that was a real Tweet), he strives to bring a bit of lightheartedness to his work for all to enjoy.
