In my presentation, "Entrepreneurial Insights from a Former Athlete," I delve into how an entrepreneur's potential for success is often judged by traditional markers like educational pedigree. This perspective hinders opportunities for individuals with diverse backgrounds, such as athletes, who are equipped with unique and transferable skills essential in entrepreneurship.
Drawing on personal anecdotes and insights, I showcase how my background as a track athlete significantly enriches my position as the founder of the tech startup, Yateou. The goal of my presentation is to empower and inspire others to leverage all aspects of their life experiences, recognizing that doing so increases the likelihood of success in our entrepreneurial pursuits.
During the presentation, you will learn:
Set goals and employ discipline and hard work, pushing yourself to achieve each one by "leaving everything on the track".
Celebrate wins and swiftly move on from mistakes and failures rather than dwelling on them.
Prioritize essential factors like eating well, getting enough sleep, and allowing for recovery time in your journey.
Embrace adaptability to navigate both known and unknown circumstances, recognizing it as a significant aspect of achieving your goals.
Drink your own Kool-Aid, as self-motivation and support are crucial for sustained commitment and resilience in your daily efforts.
Dayo McIntosh, a self-professed "non-techie" tech founder, embarked on a transformative personal care journey resulting in the creation of Yateou. This category-defining brand incorporates AI, robotics, and custom skincare to address the void of safe products in beauty and wellness. Serving as the visionary force behind Yateou, Dayo not only holds a robotics patent and trademarks but also aims to reshape the future of the beauty landscape. Her foray into the tech world started with developing Vahlidate, a gamified conflict resolution app, showcasing her commitment to creative problem-solving.
Before her unconventional entrepreneurship journey, Dayo excelled, for over a decade, in managing people, processes, and projects across numerous industries—Energy, Oil & Gas, Tech, Real Estate, and Construction. Her diverse knowledge is complemented by an athletic background that instilled a competitive edge and drive. As a first-generation immigrant, Dayo, who first relocated from Nigeria to the Netherlands at the age of 12, possesses a unique perspective that fosters out-of-the-box thinking and taking initiative.
Driven by resourcefulness, bold actions, and a fearless mindset, Dayo navigates the entrepreneurial landscape with an adventurous spirit. Her dynamic approach, fueled by curiosity, quick learning and a commitment to continuous growth, is encapsulated by the mantra "What would you do if you weren't afraid?" This philosophy empowers her to challenge norms, empower people, and aspire to build businesses that positively impact the human experience. Dayo's journey exemplifies a multi-faceted individual with the wisdom and experiences necessary for success in diverse contexts, and she takes pride in her unwavering grit.
