Nevadaworks is the local workforce development board for Northern Nevada and supports workforce development in 13 counties with an area of more than 70,000 square miles, making it one of the single largest local workforce geographical areas in the country.
From dense urban settings to sparsely populated rural towns, Nevadaworks delivers workforce services to these unique areas that over 700,000 people call home. We serve the community by assisting jobseekers through creating programs that train, educate, and support the workforce to develop key and timely in-demand skills. Nevadaworks assists businesses to secure the talent they need to thrive.
Nevadaworks serves a diverse population of individuals who are seeking employment, skills upgrading, or who are entering the workforce for the first time. These services are provided in collaboration with multiple partners through the EmployNV Business Hubs and the EmployNV Career Hubs. The EmployNV Hubs can be found all throughout the state.
In Reno, the EmployNV Business and Career Hubs are located at the Reno Town Mall. The EmployNV Career Hub offers services to job seekers that range from obtaining information on getting your GED, vocational or job training, resume building, job searches, support for employment related items, childcare support, disability services, to services for veterans. These services are offered free of charge.
The EmployNV Business Hub offers businesses the opportunity to utilize its facilities to conduct training, interviews, and hold job fair events. Businesses have access to EmployNV, the state’s largest database of job seekers. EmployNV is an innovative tool that provides real-time data on current job vacancies and allows for detailed matching of qualified candidates.
When posting a job opening on EmployNV, businesses get a team of skilled professionals who match candidates to their job posting. While other job boards rely heavily on artificial intelligence, EmployNV Business Hub staff are trained to identify and match candidates who may have otherwise been overlooked with job openings. The EmployNV Hub staff provides labor market Information to help businesses keep up with trends when making business decisions. All these programs and services are available to businesses at absolutely no cost.
Nevadaworks receives the majority of its funding through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. The WIOA funding is utilized to foster workforce development collaboration within Northern Nevada. Nevadaworks also receives alternate grant funding, including an Incumbent Worker Training grant. The IWT grant helps businesses train and upskill existing employees to meet their talent needs. Nevadaworks is also the recipient of a $14.8 million Good Jobs Challenge grant through the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration. Nevadaworks is proud to be one of the 32 Good Jobs Challenge grant recipients selected from 509 applications submitted from across the country.
The Good Job Northern Nevada grant focuses on providing training and jobs to underserved and underrepresented populations in healthcare, information technology, manufacturing, and logistics sectors; these four sectors have been the fastest growing in our region and Nevadaworks is working to build partnerships within these sectors to help provide a skilled workforce talent pipeline. Nevadaworks believes that a strong workforce is the key to a diverse and strong economy and is excited to continue to work with workforce partners and businesses to ensure prosperity for Northern Nevada residents and businesses.
