Reno’s jobless rate ticks down to 2.9 percent

On Dec. 17, the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation released its monthly report, putting the seasonally adjusted jobless rate in Nevada at 6.8 percent, down four tenths of a percent from October.

According to that report, the state added back 2,600 jobs last month, far fewer than the 12,000 jobs added in October. As of November, there are now 988,700 people employed in the Las Vegas area, 251,500 in the Reno-Sparks area and 31,200 in Carson City.

Earlier this week, on Dec. 21, DETR released its region-by-region report for November, showing unemployment rates were 6.3 percent in the Las Vegas area, 2.9 percent in Reno-Sparks, and 3.3 percent in Carson City.

For Reno-Sparks, that puts the region at nearly the same rate as its lowest point on record since the turn of the century — 2.8 percent in November 2019, according to DETR’s historical data, and near its lowest-ever mark of 2.5 percent in October 1999.
