NCET Biz Tips: How DispatchHealth Is Redefining Patient Home Care During COVID-19
by Dave Archer
As the demand for healthcare services continues to grow, it is becoming increasingly important to consider different avenues for patients to assess home care. DispatchHealth, a mobile urgent care service, is working diligently to provide pandemic relief by redefining patient care as we know it today.
The innovative in-home care service has tested and treated more than 1,040 patients with COVID-19 related symptoms, said Joe Cummings, marketing director for DispatchHealth.
In partnership with Renown Health, the housing call team consists of either a nurse practitioner, physician’s assistant, or on-call ER physician, along with a medical technician.
Together, the expert team of healthcare professionals can test and treat most health-related injuries or illnesses under a traditional urgent care scope of work.
To better serve the community during times of uncertainty, patients will receive high-quality health care from the comfort of their homes while avoiding any unnecessary emergency visits or hospitalizations.
To ensure proper safety measures are in place before entering a patient’s home, DispatchHealth follows current CDC protocols using innovative technologies.
Torrie Brizzie, business development manager for DispatchHealth, explained some of the implemented precautionary measures to protect the team and patient while conducting an in-home visit.
“We show up with the proper PPE, including a mask, gloves, and eye protection,” Brizzie said. “Then, if someone is potentially positive, we increase that to an N95 mask, gown, hair cover, and shoe coverings.”
The housing call team is informed of any potential risks by a team of optimizers working seven days a week, 365 days per year, to answer calls across Nevada.
After an in-depth screening process, patients experiencing COVID-19 symptoms receive test results back within two to three business days.
As a convenient healthcare alternative, patients no longer have to wait in uncomfortable waiting rooms or long lines.
Customers can request services via phone, website, and mobile app. With the simple touch of a button, the housing call team will arrive within two to three hours, where patients will receive on-demand treatment.
Since the beginning of April 2020, DispatchHealth has cared for 1,687 patients suffering from various injuries and illnesses, according to Cummings.
DispatchHealth will also order prescriptions to the patient’s preferred pharmacy while on the scene and contact primary health care providers to ensure all corresponding appointments are scheduled.
