Startup Weekend begins Friday, October 16 at 6 p.m. at the downtown Reno Innevation Center and runs through Sunday, October 18. Startup Weekend, hosted by the University of Nevada, Reno, is a 54-hour weekend event during which groups of developers, engineers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more pitch ideas for new startup companies, form teams around those ideas, and work to develop a working prototype, demo, or presentation by Sunday evening.
Holland & Hart, in partnership with The Abbi Agency and J.A. Solari & Partners, has launched the Biggest Little Startup Competition from September 25 to November 12, 2015 to support the growth of one emerging Northern Nevada company. The winner of the competition will be awarded a prize package valued at $25,000, which includes $5,000 cash, corporate legal services from Holland & Hart, PR and marketing services from The Abbi Agency, and accounting services from J.A. Solari & Partners.
Eric Madison, 43, grew up in Franklin, N.C., and has lived in Washington, D.C., New York City, Silicon Valley and Reno. He has a bachelor of science degree in computer science, physics and math from the University of North Carolina. He is currently the executive director of the CUBE at Midtown, a business incubator and startup community center. He’s also worked as the director of Internet engineering at MCI where he built 238 data centers in 38 countries, as a serial entrepreneurs forming seven startups in Washington, D.C. and Silicon Valley, including three that went IPO on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
The third annual Startup Weekend Reno is scheduled for for the weekend of November 21 at the Reno Aces Ballpark. Startup Weekends are 54-hour long, hands-on experiences where entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs can find out if their startup ideas are viable, and where others can experience the startup process. Startup Weekend attendees have technical or design backgrounds while others have a variety of business backgrounds.
