Northern Nevada is at a watershed moment for angel and startup investing. Homegrown tech companies such as Clickbio, NevadaNano, Filament and Breadware, along with larger newcomers such as New Deantronics, Figure and Elemental LED, are transforming the entrepreneurial development scene in Northern Nevada.
A group of local business women have joined forces to help other women succeed at business. Inspire Reno describes itself as a women’s entrepreneurial development center. “One thing we know about people who are peak performers is, the one thing they have in common is, they gather around other successful people,” says Dr. Erin Oksol, psychologist and business coach.
As a startup or small business owner, it is important to manage all aspects of your company. In addition to the obvious things like engineering, development, branding, marketing, sales and customer support, this includes administrative functions like finance/accounting, human resources, legal and information systems.
Most of the young entrepreneurs Zachary Miles encounters at UNLV’s small business development center have can-do attitudes. That’s not surprising given the emerging tech scene in Las Vegas. But some, Miles said, take that confidence a bit too far — to the point of not being able to take criticism.
