In case you hadn’t noticed, something has been happening in midtown Reno. An enterprising young business, Marmot Companies, has been quietly transforming the urban landscape by revitalizing a two-block area of housing near the children’s Discovery Museum. What had become a run-down and undesirable eyesore, Marmot has turned into a pleasantly rehabilitated, vibrant neighborhood in which to live and work.
How did they do it? Join NCET on June 12 for an inspiring and informative Tech Wednesday at Marmot Companies’ new office in midtown. You’ll learn how three brothers — Bryan, Eric and Gary Raydon — had a vision and a burning desire to make a difference and are doing just that by purchasing dilapidated homes and renovating them to create a renewed sense of community. You’ll also learn how they formed private investment funds to finance the project.
Plus, we’ll be taking a brief walking tour of a few of the 21 single and multi-family residential properties — some of them historical — dubbed “The Assemblage” just east of Virginia Street. Signs along the way will have QR codes you can scan to see what the properties used to look like and the rehabilitation process they went through. It should be a fascinating look at urban renewal in Reno.
So join NCET on Wednesday, June 12 — and don’t forget to wear your walking shoes — as we take a stroll around the neighborhood that Marmot rebuilt.
