NCET explores business and technology
By Alice Heiman
Most companies I work with want to grow revenue by 25 percent, 30 percent, 50 percent or more. If you own a business or if you’re a sales leader, then you are responsible for driving this enormous growth, and you may be wondering how to do it.
I believe that a company’s ability to capture market share and deliver exponential growth starts with the mindset of its leadership. Leaders must develop themselves before they can expect a sales team to bring in results.
Every great leader needs the mindset, skill set, and tool set to succeed. Here are some tips on how to develop all three:
A leader’s mindset is the most important piece of this puzzle. A strong skillset and toolset will not matter if the leader doesn’t have the right mindset. To get in the right mindset, company and sales leaders should take care of themselves and nurture a positive attitude. Go for a walk. Meditate. Compliment others freely. Unplug (don’t worry, those emails will still be there!). To achieve exponential growth, leaders need a powerful and positive mindset. Once you develop this mindset, you can coach a sales team to do the same.
After achieving a positive mindset, start thinking about what skills you need to need to coach and guide your team to success. These skills may be communication-focused, such as listening attentively, setting clear objectives and providing productive feedback. Or, these skills may be leadership focused, such as creating a motivating environment, supporting and empowering others, and demonstrating trust. Ask yourself what abilities you have, and what you need to develop to improve your skill set.
Once you have a great mindset and skill set, it’s time to develop your tool set. There are so many tools out there that it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Think about what you need to be a great leader. The list probably comes down to a few simple, but essential, tools. Once you know the tools you need to use, dedicate time to learning how to use them in the most efficient way.
When leaders develop a healthy mindset, solid skill set and effective tool set, they can coach their teams to the same. Then, these teams can deliver exponential growth.
Learn how to develop the mindset, skill set and tool set you need to drive exponential growth at NCET’s Tech Bite luncheon on March 22.
