There is no question that Northern Nevada’s economy is roaring. We continue to see solid job growth, especially in the small-business sector, while commanding the attention of global companies like Tesla and Switch.
Even so, small businesses make a robust impact on the economy. Fifteen jobs here, 30 jobs there. It all adds up. Small-business owners who make Northern Nevada their home have helped to reduce state and local jobless rates below 5 percent, the lowest since before the Great Recession. Add in more than a 5 percent drop in initial unemployment claims statewide in the first six months of 2018 over 2017, and it appears business growth could maintain traction for the foreseeable future.
That means it’s crucial for small-business operators, and those who want to start a small business, to have the resources they need to turn their dreams into a reality. And so once again this year, aspiring Northern Nevada business owners can find assistance and guidance through the NCET Small Business Expo.
The event connects small-business owners with professionals who can help them grow. Like last year, more than 1,000 small business owners and developers, their employees and aspiring businessmen and -women are expected to attend. The day-long expo in Reno provides seminars and unmatched networking opportunities among industry experts.
Detailed, hands-on information about products and services to assist small-business owners and startup companies will be available from more than 100 exhibitors from business-oriented law firms, financial institutions and commercial real estate brokers to web service providers and advertising agencies.
Additionally, educational seminars will bring together panels of top regional experts providing advice on key facets of running a small business, from business plans and financial strategies to marketing, social media messaging, and legal strategies. The seminars will provide attendees a rare opportunity to receive quality business guidance and advice free of charge. The expo will also provide opportunities for one-on-one conversations and networking to acquaint attendees with the full breadth of resources available to them.
The 13th NCET Small Business Expo will be held on Friday, Sept. 28, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno. Admission is free with a business card.
In my time as Nevada’s lieutenant governor, and as a small-business owner myself, I have seen firsthand the positive and meaningful contributions of our small-business community, and I understand the economic development opportunities for our state’s future when these businesses are provided the support to meet their full potential.
With that in mind, I proudly endorse the NCET Small Business Expo and the important role NCET plays in helping Northern Nevada entrepreneurs turn their dreams into reality — a reality that can create a better tomorrow for Nevada’s families and communities.
