NCET helps you explore business and technology
By Dave Archer
Back when many cities had just three TV stations and you had to walk to the TV to change channels, I looked forward to TV Guide’s Fall Preview of new and returning shows. With that in mind, here’s my annual NCET’s Fall Preview of programs and events designed to help Northern Nevada’s small businesses and entrepreneurs.
Nevada Economic Development Conference, August 20-22: If there is a one-stop shop to check out Nevada’s super-charged business landscape, it’s the 4th annual Nevada Economic Development Conference, “Connecting Nevada for a Stronger Economy.” The three-day conference at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa features a field trip to the new Switch campus and then two days of keynote speakers and panels on topics ranging from agribusiness to blockchain technology. Info and registration at nvedc.com.
NCET Small Business Expo, September 28: My personal favorite, the 13th annual NCET Expo is Northern Nevada’s best networking event. The Expo is where you’ll meet the people who will help you start or grow your business. The Expo features 1,000 business people with whom you can network, 100 exhibitors and a dozen educational sessions. This year’s educational track focuses on resources for small businesses, legal issues, marketing and more! Open to the public, and free to attend with a business card. NCETexpo.org
EDAWN Existing Industry Awards, October 18: The EDAWN Existing Industry Awards, held at the Grand Sierra Resort, recognize “Primary Companies” in Washoe County, Storey County and Fernley for their outstanding contributions to our community. (Primary Companies generate more than 50% of their revenue outside the State of Nevada.) Nominate or find out more at https://tinyurl.com/EDAWN18.
Governor’s Conference on Small Business, October 18 (Las Vegas): The 7th annual event is a comprehensive business resource and networking event designed both for entrepreneurs seeking to launch a new venture and for business owners who want to grow their businesses. The Conference features a Business Resource Expo, breakout sessions, and a luncheon keynote address by Governor Sandoval. business.nv.gov/GCB/Home
NCET’s 3rd annual State of Digital Marketing Industry, November 28: NCET is bringing together some of the top minds in marketing for a special panel discussion on the current state of digital marketing while looking to the future on such topics as content, website personalization, social media, search and other marketing trends. Don’t miss this chance to learn about what’s happening, what’s about to happen, and how digital marketing ties in to the ultimate success of your business. Panelists include Abbi Whitaker of The Abbi Agency and Jarrod Lopiccolo of Noble Studios, with more panelists added soon. NCETspecial.org
TEDxUniversityofNevada, February 23, 2019: At the 7th annual TEDxUniversityofNevada event, live speakers and TED Talks videos combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. This year’s event will be held at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center, where speakers and participants will share and discuss ideas worth spreading! tedxuniversityofnevada.org
