Similar to the way that Artown celebrates and showcases Reno’s arts community, eMonth – short for Entrepreneur Month – celebrates and encourages Northern Nevada’s small businesses and entrepreneurs. Throughout September, our local business community comes together to offer help and resources to the small businesses and entrepreneurs that drive North Nevada’s economy. Events include workshops, mixers, business-focused luncheons, meetings of professional organizations, and my personal favorite, the NCET Expo.
Just as importantly, NCET’s annual eMonth provides a barometer of the health of Northern Nevada’s economy. When NCET launched this event in 2007, it was called eWeek and featured a total of five events. Seven years later, it’s expanded to an entire month and we already have nearly FIFTY events on the calendar, with more added every day.
This increase in the number of events reflects two changes. First, we have a far greater number of Entrepreneurial Support Organizations who offer free and low-cost programs to small businesses and entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurship Nevada, Reno Collective, NIREC and 1 Million Cups are just a few of the new organizations and programs available to help you with your business or your business idea. Second, we have a larger number of successful companies giving back to the community by holding workshops and seminars designed to help their fellow small business owners and entrepreneurs.
Here are just a few of the upcoming eMonth events:
Sept 3 – NxLeveL for Micro Entrepreneurs: Turn your business ideas into a plan of action
Sept 4 – 1 Millions Cups: A weekly opportunity to present your startup to a diverse audience of mentors, advisors and entrepreneurs
Sept 5 – Small Business Strategies for Surviving Health Care Reform
Sept 5 – Business Continuity Plan Training: Hands-on workshop where you will actually start your plan
Sept 11 – NCET Tech Wednesday: An opportunity to discover the area’s most innovative companies
Sept 12 – eHours: Take your business to the next level by accessing free professional help from the best in Northern Nevada
eMonth’s capstone event is the free NCET Expo on Sept 27 at the Atlantis. Featuring 100 exhibitors and a dozen educational sessions, it offers everything you need to start or grow your small business.
