Truckee Meadows Community College is getting a $2.25 million federal grant to renovate a technology center that provides job training in clean energy, advanced mining, materials, manufacturing and logistics industries.
The U.S. Secretary of Commerce Department’s Economic Development Administration grant will help fill needs for 1,600 jobs, the department said in a press release.
It was part of $7.2 million in EDA spending announced today for Nevada, California, Oregon and Utah.
“These $7.2 million in investments are an example of the Obama administration’s commitment to creating jobs and promoting our nation’s economic competitiveness,” Secretary Penny Pritzker said in a statement. “The EDA grants announced today will support tourism growth in Utah and expand job training programs in distressed communities in California, Nevada, and Oregon, which are crucial to ensuring a skilled 21st century workforce.”
