Some Local Businesses Also Buy Local
While the concept itself is not new, an increasing number of local businesses are now also buying their office supplies from a northern Nevada business.
Businesses like Plato’s Closet. Newly-elected Reno City Councilwoman, Hillary Schieve owns the Midtown shop, along with the Clothes Mentor. "We pay customers to recycle," she explains. Then she sells the recently acquired clothing at lower prices back to the community. In doing so, she says, she is not just recycling clothing; she is also recycling the economy. However, that is not the only way she gives back. When Hillary heard about It’s My Community Store, "I fell in love with the concept the minute I saw it; it’s such a no-brainer."
The online store is stocked with thousands of items; everything from office to business to school supplies. The prices are competitive, but what is even more appealing to local businesses is that 10% of every purchase goes straight to a non-profit or charity of their choice. It’s My Community Store CEO, Jenifer Rose says, "We just want to write the biggest checks possible. That was our goal from the beginning. As a business, we don’t have to give 10% of our business back, but we want to."
Jenifer wanted to create a way for businesses to buy the products they need anyway and support charities – without spending any extra money out of pocket. There is a list of non-profits located on www.itsmycommunitystore.comfrom which you can choose during checkout.
