Once celebrated as a rotating exhibit only to be off to the next great city, the National Automobile Museum, The Harrah Collection, is excited to announce the newest permanent exhibit to hit the space stage in northern Nevada. Nevada Space Center located in the museum, is a world-class experience for all ages teaching STEM-based content via a fusion of physical experiences, state-of- the-art video game technology and simulators, and actual NASA reconnaissance data. Now, the Nevada Space Center is included as part of admission at the National Automobile Museum offering even more value to the Museum’s already captivating experience.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be the official mission control for the Nevada Space Center,” said Jackie Frady, president and executive director of the National Automobile Museum. “Having hosted this great experience as part of the traveling exhibit, visitors absolutely reveled in the chance to play astronaut with this truly lifelike display.”
Scientifically verified by experts at NASA for accuracy and feasibility, the new interactive exhibit lets visitors pilot their own crew of virtual content experts through several astronautically themed stages — touchscreen stations, artifacts and interactive simulator pods built to look like space capsules.
Visitors can fly a spaceship, pilot a lander, and drive a surface rover in pods. Included in the space capsules are 70-in. monitors serving as the ship’s ‘windshield,’ giving visitors a first-person view of their adventures. Touchscreens and industrial-quality joysticks put visitors in command. During missions, the entire cockpit comes alive with animated lighting effects, game visuals, and sounds that bring space inside.
Each visitor receives a magnetic swipe ID card that they can use to track their progress through each step of the exhibit’s missions. Cards can be used over multiple visits, so rocketeers can continue their space trek where they left off during previous adventures. Also on display inside the exhibition are space memorabilia, an actual rover, and a collection of authentic space suits and artifacts from NASA missions and US Apollo and USSR space programs.
